Our experience as family carers means that we have a dual emphasis in the services we have developed – on the person requiring the care and support but equally on the wider family and friends who are so greatly impacted. In our experience the needs of families are rarely reflected in the support offered. We believe that only by addressing these needs and concerns can truly effective care be provided.
As people who have managed residential and nursing homes we are acutely aware of the very real challenges faced by proprietors and managers in meeting the ever increasing demands of the ageing population and the continuing economic pressures on health and social care.
Being family carers taught us, perhaps the hard way, that traditional services detract from people’s independence, limit life choices and confine people in rigid preconceptions of what entitlement to care and support services should mean. Traditional care models strip people of their individuality, their choices and their aspirations.
